15 Fun Inexpensive Things to do During the Holidays
1. Gingerbread Building Contest
These are a Christmas tradition in my house! Have everyone bring their favorite candy a graham crackers and make this easy and inexpensive frosting and build away! It’s always fun to see what people come up with. This makes for hours of laughter and fun!
2. Go Sledding
If there’s snow on the ground you best believe I’m taking my kids out and going sledding! Last year there was a shortage of sleds in my area, and if they were available they were crazy expensive! Luckily I found No Sled No Problem 17 DIY ideas. So even if you find yourself sledless, there are still options!
3. Look at Christmas Lights
Bundle up, grab some hot chocolate to go, add some sounds of the season and drive around with the windows down, all while looking at Christmas lights! This will be sure to make you feel all the “holiday feels” 🙂
4. Go Caroling
“Falalalalalal” Grab some friends and your best singing voice and go sing carols around your neighborhood, nursing homes, hospitals, or anyplace! And don’t worry if you don’t have a great singing voice (I sure don’t) if you’re with a group of people no one will notice the off key singing.
5. Make a fort and Snuggle in and watch Christmas movie marathon complete with Popcorn

Do I really need to go any further? This really is the definition of Netflix and chill (like chilly weather, this is g rated afterall) bahaha 😉
6. Host an Ugly Christmas Sweater Party potluck with White Elephant Gift Exchange
Grab your ugliest sweater, or tacky Christmas outfit concoction, a funny gift to exchange and a favorite winter dish…and you’re guaranteed a night of laughs, good food and friendship! 7. Local Festivities and Happenings
See what your town or city offers they may have many holiday celebrations that are free and fun for the whole family!
8. Serve Others
Sometimes we get caught up in all the hoopla of Christmas, this is a great opportunity to help others in need, whether it be help at a soup kitchen, donate. I found a great article that gives twenty great ideas to help others here.
9. Decorate the House
Make it an event for the whole family, complete with holiday tunes and hot cocoa 🙂
10. Bake Cookies
The weather outside is frightful but the smell of cookies baking is so delightful. Seriously, nothing beats making Christmas cookies while playing Christmas music to get you in the holiday spirit…look for my 20 great Christmas cookies to make coming up next 🙂
11. Make Christmas Ornaments and Crafts
When the weather is too cold to be outside and you’re getting bored, pick out a craft of DIY ornament to work on to keep those winter blues away…
12. Visit a Live Nativity or Menorah Lighting
Check your local church to see if there are any near you and make a date of it!
