Are workout clothes really worth the splurge? Here are some ways to get the best deals on workout gear that prove that you can save money on quality apparel!
There is nothing better than putting on workout clothes to make you feel confident, fit , and ready to tackle a heart pumping, perspire inducing workout. But do you have to sweat out loads of money for decent workout clothes?
To be honest, I have come a long way from the raggedy old sweats and torn up t-shirts I used to wear to workout in. Now I have cute clothes that fit, keep my “junk in the trunk” in check, tighten and smooth my curves, all while creating the illusion a bootylicious bum. Until a few years ago though, I bought whatever was on sale, wore old sweats and made them work… even if they didn’t fit quite right. That all changed when my husband bribed me with a high end workout outfit I had my eye on, if I ran the full Marine Corp Marathon with him….5 months postpartum. My crazy self-agreed…What can I say, I love workout clothes and I really wanted these pants, I got them and wore them on race day. WOAH! MIND BLOWN, GAME CHANGER! It was then that I wondered if I was doing myself a disservice by skimping on the quality of my workout clothes all along?!? Did it really matter? Through personal experience and research, I have found what is worth the splurge and what is not….
If The Shoe Fits
Over the years this is one thing I have learned not to skimp out on. Just like Cinderella, the shoe must fit in order for anything good to happen! It’s great to shop sales but don’t get suckered for a good deal unless it’s the exact shoe you want or need, whether it be for running, walking, cross training etc… because there is no one shoe that fits all. Some places will track your gait and find the perfect shoe for you but it will be more on the pricey side. Be sure to shop around, many times some stores will have way better deals and sales than their competitors . This past year I also heard of a great website shoekicker that will find the shoes you like for the cheapest price, taking the work out of price matching for you! http://www.runnersworld.com/running-shoes/new-website-finds-cheapest-running-shoes-on-the-web-irking-some-running-stores, I’m actually in need of a new pair of cross training shoes and am definitely going to be utilizing this great website!
These are a splurge, but I have learned that quality is better than quantity. Like I had mentioned earlier, I used to skimp on these, yes I saved money but after a while I would have to buy new ones because they would lose their elasticity, pill and sometimes become see through (and who really wants to see that?!?). I have noticed a huge difference when my hubby bought me the higher end athletic pants. They fit LIKE A GLOVE, make my booty look on point, wick sweat and whatever liquids may end up on them, keep everything tight and in place. They also prevent chub rub (I’m sure many can relate…that area between my legs that rub together and chafe…ouch) which I thought was normal. In a good pair of pants NONE of this should happen. I learned this by investing in a couple of pants that I love and I have noticed a difference in the quality. In fact, my marathon pants still are still one of my favorite go to pants and they are over a year old and have been worn a bunch but still in perfect condition. In this case I have learned that quality is better than quantity.
I am guilty of not investing in a great bra in the past. Probably a grave mistake for “the girls”, as well as for myself (there may have been a couple of instances of a runaway nip…so embarrassing). Needless to say, I have learned the hard way that it is so important to have a decent bra that will keep those puppies safe and secure. I know I have a hard time investing in something no one will see, but there’s nothing like knowing you can jump, run do burpees and not get knocked out by your own tatas.
Not wanting to spend a whole lot but still want quality? Everything else such as tops, socks and jackets we can all save money on and put it towards our splurge purchases. These items don’t have to cost a lot of money, if you find a great deal and shop sales! One of my favorites is Lululemons’s We made too much, and ATHLETE for my pants and bras . Full price items at these places can make your heart pound but I only shop their sales and wind up paying a fraction of the original cost ( because this chick here never pays full price). They also offer free complimentary hemming and back their products up 100% making sure you are satisfied 🙂
GAPFIT (which currently has some great markdowns now up to 60% off) as well as Old Navy (don’t forget to use your 10%off military discount), both have a great variety of workout clothes that are decently priced . I have also found that the good ole Base Exchange as well as TJ MAXX will carry great brands such as NIKE, Under Armor or Reebok at a fraction of the cost of department stores. You just have to find what works for you! I myself have a good collection of all of these to mix and match and my go to’s for saving and splurging 🙂
