It is time….
Time to retire shorts and replace them with leggings and jeans.
Time to retire that razor too…hello sasquatch legs, just kidding…well kind of…
Time to dig out those sweaters and put away those suits.
Time to say goodbye to watermelon, R.I.P. It’s been a good run.
To say “Hello there, Pumpkin, welcome back!”
Alright I think you get the drift…it’s Fall, y’all!! As sad as I am that summer is over, I love fall, so I welcome it with open arms. What is your favorite thing about fall? Mine is FALL FASHION! So without further ado, may I present to you a preview of some of New York Fashion Weeks Fall Fashions this year (to see all the top 12 trends click here) :
Alright, I don’t know about you, but I just don’t see myself strutting these latest fashions at the commissary or school drop off. As out there as some of these “in” fashion trends may be, they just aren’t practical, nor what I picture as my perfect fall outfit. There are, however, a few things that are “in” that we can incorporate such as: tans, florals, ruffles, and chokers (yes, you read that right…OMG, can you say 90s?!?!?) With that in mind, when I picture Fall fashion for myself, I imagine this:
Looks expensive, but all these looks can easily be achieved without maxing out the credit cards.
I can guarantee every one of you have at least a few items from the pictures above, whether it be jeans, shirts, or scarves. The perfect outfit may be hiding in the depths of your closet, and you may not even know it! I know I have a hard time piecing outfits together and I heard about this app called Stylebook, a must try, just upload pictures from your closet and this app will help you create outfits and ideas and it cost less than a pumpkin spice latte 😉
One statement I have noticed the past few years…the blanket scarf. They seem to compliment any sweater, shirt or jacket, making it the perfect accessory for almost any fall outfit! I have been wanting to get one the past two years but never wanted to pay full price (they can get pricey). Well I guess what?!?! Target has them in the dollar section for $7!
They don’t have a pattern you like? Feeling a bit crafty? Good news! You can make your own! All that’s needed is a visit to your local fabric store (I always check to see if they have coupons or sales) and follow this mama who gives step by step instructions. The best part about the blanket scarf? It can be worn so many different ways! Visit girl.com to see the many ways to wear a blanket scarf, so many different styles…I had no idea!
While you’re at the fabric store you may want to buy yourself some leather straps (don’t worry this is G rated…No, fifty shades of grey here;)) to create a choker! For a few dollars you can pull off one of the 12 fall trends of this year!
Classic Fall key pieces
One of my favorite fall pieces are the button up flannel shirts. There are so many ways to wear them: layered, on their own, buttoned up, left open or around your waist. Flannels pair well with jeans or leggings and the best part is they are super comfy.
Fun fact: one of my favorite flannels actually came from my brother’s closet!! So before going out and looking for one I would suggest raiding your significant other’s (or brother’s in my case) closet, you may find the perfect flannel (too big? belt it and voila!) Coming up empty handed in the closet raiding? Visit your local consignment shop, I betchya you may find some there, along with some other hidden clothing gems!
There are a few classic pieces that I have added to my wardrobe over the years that have completed my fall wardrobe such as: boots, sweaters, vests and jackets, all which I have bought almost 70% off original prices. How did I do this one might ask? Without sounding redundant (because shop like this with everything) I always find things I need looking at sales, or clearance, scoping out my local TJ Maxx and Marshalls. Surprisingly enough, I have also found many items from consignment places such as FB buy sell or trade groups, consignment shops and garage sales too, no shame in that!
